Interview with Saloni Seth, the Co-owner of brand Shoonya

Shoonya Clothing is Banaras Handloom inspired young, chic and colourful brand with global appeal. A brand that delves into the regal threads and weaves. They have got a stunning collection of predominantly India-inspired and reflects our rich heritage of colours, textures and prints. We got in touch with Saloni seth, the co-owner of Shoonya and got to know more about the brand. Take a look yourself what Saloni has to say.

1. How did you start in this industry? What inspired you?

We started our journey on March 3, 2017, at Hotel Ashoka, New Delhi where Shoonya, the brand was launched.
We derive our inspiration from an international brand ‘Zara’ that keep up with the latest fashion, are of high quality and yet, affordable.
Hence, Shoonya existence is to fill in the gap between the authentic Banarasi weaves & global designer styles, trends. Our objective is to make Banarasi Clothing a fast moving product by giving a variety of designs, patterns & styles. Our vision is to be the one-stop-shop for Banarasi Wear. Our product range includes Banarasi Dupattas, Lehengas, Dress Material & Sarees.
Our vision is not limited to design but to the handloom industry. We have taken our baby steps towards the revival of handloom sector and entirely dedicated towards the upliftment of weaver’s community.

2. What do you think what sets you apart from others?

Our quest to experiment textiles of Banaras with new fabrics & designs totally set us apart in the industry. Our creations seamlessly blend globally preferred fabrics such as Denim, Velvet with Banarasi Brocades & Weaves. Our innovations ‘ Denim-e-Banarasi’, ‘Velvet-e-Banarasi’ were highly appreciated amongst our clients & followers. Our USP is to surprise our clients everytime they visit us with fast-changing designs & trends. We also do the rarely found combinations that are handlooms with handwork.

3. How long have you been in this industry and how has the journey been?

It’s a 60 years old family legacy in Banarasi Sarees & Textiles, that has given a new birth. As a founder, I had the responsibility to give life to the newly launched brand Shoonya with fresh thoughts & articulations. My journey working at Shoonya in past 14 months has been phenomenal. It gives me immense inner peace to take my vision of Banarasi Clothing on the table. I am absolutely blessed to have such an incredible team who everyday aspires to push the envelope of stereotypical expectations from Banarasi wear.

4. Please tell us something about your collection

Our creations diligently experiment with techniques, designs & patterns to infuse a new perspective into the Banarasi textiles & weaves. Our products fulfill the desire of young millennials who want to opt for Indian textiles & handloom products not compromising in new trends & styles.
